Self Portrait--Cartoon by Melaninny Self Portrait--Cartoon by Melaninny
This one is one of my favorites, and one of the first ones I was really proud of. =]

For my drawing class last semester we did a self portrait a week in different styles. : D

This is week 8, a self portrait in the 50's cartoon style. I was excited because I knew this one would come more naturally for me. xD It was actually hard to hold back and not use too much detail--one of the key elements of the 50's cartoon style is that it should look like anyone on an comic line could do it.

In 50's comic style, actually you'd probably never see folds or bags under the eyes unless it was a man, and you'd totally have bigger lashes! haha. Well okay, maybe I read too many comics. But I understand the assignment on lessismore sorta thing, and well done on that front. Comic style it is, indeed!

Yeah, thanks for pointing that out! I'll admit that I didn't do research for this, my teacher handed out a worksheet with references, and--surprise!--they were all guys.

That said I don't mind being in the guy style, anyways. I always find there's *too* much differentiation between men and women in that style. xD

Yes! That is what I associate with that style. I think there's a big difference between that kind of color illustration and one in black and white with deep shadows, though. I'd like to see a reference of that!

Gray Ghost! [link] ftw. It was created in the 90's but meant to model 40's or 50's style, if that makes any sense. Bruce Wayne read it as a kid. Lol @ DC... anywho.

Here's another one: [link] modern yeah, but still in the style of 50's noir. :D
