Divided We Stand

Still going along with my barbed wire theme, but getting a bit less literal about it.

We had a mapping project, so I decided to do a map of the United States. We had to use only two colors, so I used indigo to show the blue states and burnt sienna to show the red ones. The more neutral brown are the "purple" states.

The dark line through the center is the Mason Dixon line, where the states were divided in the Civil War. I was trying to draw parallels... *not the best at being political* xD

I decided to do a barbed wire motif as the ocean to make it more interesting and also to show the ocean as a natural divider--whereas state lines, political lines--these are all things that are kind of made up.

This was done in watercolor. It was a big one! 22" x 30" Took a very long time, haha. xD
